(1) The Town Maintenance Supervisor shall issue all permits required under this Chapter; provided, in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mayor shall have authority to issue permits using the same procedures and applying the same standards as required of the Maintenance Supervisor. Any person desiring to move any vehicle or load for which a permit is required under this Chapter shall apply to the Maintenance Supervisor for the permit. The application may be verbal or written, as the Maintenance Supervisor may direct. The Maintenance Supervisor shall review the application and determine whether the proposed load is likely to damage the street(s) or alley(s) to be traversed. The Maintenance Supervisor shall then issue the permit with such restrictions or conditions as may be reasonably necessary to minimize the likelihood of any damage to the street(s) or alley(s). If the Maintenance Supervisor determines that there are no restrictions or conditions reasonably available to minimize the likelihood of such damage, the application shall be denied.

(2) Any permit issued under this Chapter shall be written, but need not be in any particular form so long as it states the date and type of traffic or load to be permitted, and the route to be traversed. The permit shall then be valid for the assigned date and designated route, for the traffic or load specified. (Ord. 210-N, §4, 1993)
