Curbs shall be of concrete construction, and shall be 6" wide at the top and level with the street edge of the sidewalk. Curbs shall also be 16" deep and 11" wide at the base, with equal batter on both sides. The concrete shall be composed of approximately one part Portland cement, two and one-half parts sand, and five parts gravel.

Curb sub-grades shall be thoroughly compacted and all parts of the side forms shall rest on firm ground. Side forms shall be at least 2" planed stocked. Used forms shall be thoroughly cleaned, and worn or splintered forms shall not be used.

The sub-grade shall be thoroughly sprinkled before the concrete is poured. The concrete shall be well tamped, and the top and road sides shall be finished smooth with rounded edges of 1" radius. Then, within twenty-four hours after the concrete is poured, the road side forms shall be removed and the concrete treated with a float finish.

Expansion joints shall be placed at the beginning and end of all curb radii, and every 20 – 25' in-between. Expansion joints shall be completely filled with pre-molded joint material which is 3/8" thick. The top and road sides shall be marked every 5' with 1/2" deep groves. (Ord. 8-N, §, 1947)
