No snowmobile shall be operated in the Town unless equipped with the following:

(1) At least 1 and not more than 2 headlamps sufficient to render clearly discernable persons and vehicles at a distance of 250 feet ahead, when operated between the hours of dusk and dawn, or when otherwise required for the safety of others.

(2) Tail lamps, which will emit a red light, when lighted, that will be plainly visible at a distance of 250 feet to the rear, when operated between the hours of dusk and dawn, or when required for the safety of others.

(3) At least 1 brake which may be operated by either a hand or by foot.

(4) Without an adequate and operating muffler device which shall effectively blend the exhaust or unusual noise in such a manner as to preclude excessive or unusual noise, and, on snowmobiles manufactured after January 4, 1973, which shall effectively maintain such noise level of 82 decibels or less on the “A” scale at 100 feet under testing procedures as established by the Washington State Patrol; except snowmobiles used in organized racing events in an area designated for that purpose may use a bypass or cutout device.

(5) All snowmobiles operated in the Town shall be equipped with a mast or antenna displaying a red or red-orange fluorescent flag or pennant a minimum of 5 feet above the ground. Such flag or pennant shall be in either rectangular or triangular shape with the leading edge being a minimum of 6 inches and the length a maximum of 12 inches. (Ord. 84-N, §6, 1976)
